Hello, I'm Karen Slade aka Kate Tiler when I demonstrate, teach and give talks about Medieval tile making.

I'm based in the East Midlands area of Britain, and I travel all over the country. I trade at reenactment and ceramics fairs and create tiled artwork to commission for clients including conservation projects, museums and The National Heritage Lottery Scheme.

I first made medieval tiles in the summer of 1996, and every year I learn something while talking to visitors at events, when I'm researching at an archive, or when I'm focused on carving wooden pattern blocks and using them to make tiles.

I work as a community artist and I teach and demonstrate other historic crafts and arts including Roman decorative patterned box flue tiles, using a carved round wooden roller.
