Welcome to Kate Tiler, a historic demonstrator of Medieval tile making, as well as my work as a community artist and teacher, as Karen Slade.
I first made medieval tiles in the summer of 1996, and every year I learn something new. Sometimes this is while talking to visitors at events, when I'm researching at an archive, or when I'm focused on carving wooden pattern blocks and using them to make tiles.
I also demonstrate and make Roman decorative patterned box flue tiles, using a carved round wooden roller.

my studio is not usually open to visitors.
I demonstrate, and teach and give talks.
I trade twice a year at The Original Re-enactor's Market, in Ryton on Dunsmore, near Coventry, in March and November. I also demonstrate and sell at Living Crafts, Hatfield House, in May each year.
